Frequently Asked Questions
Do you take insurance?
We are a private-pay practice and do not bill insurance directly. However, we’re happy to provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement as an out-of-network service.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is an itemized receipt showing the services your child received during a session. You pay upfront, and then submit the superbill to your insurance, who may reimburse you directly.
What is occupational therapy (OT)?
Pediatric occupational therapy helps children build the foundational skills they need to thrive—things like play, feeding, sleep, self-care, and emotional regulation.
At Small Steps, Big Leaps, we use a holistic, bottom-up approach to understand the root causes of your child’s challenges. That means we look at how early sensory and motor experiences (like crawling or tummy time) connect to things like picky eating, poor attention, or trouble with school tasks.
Our goal is meaningful, lasting progress—at home, at school, and everywhere in between.
What is feeding therapy?
Feeding therapy helps children feel safe, confident, and curious around food. Every child’s journey looks different, but we always focus on making mealtimes positive, pressure-free, and child-led.
We use the SOS (Sequential Oral Sensory) Approach to address the sensory, motor, and oral skills needed for successful feeding. No bribes, no battles—just trust, exploration, and play.
If you’re wondering if feeding therapy could help your child, reach out for a free consultation. We’re here to support you.
What ages do you work with?
We work with children from birth through early childhood. If you have questions about milestones, feeding skills, sensory needs, or school readiness, let’s chat! A free phone consultation can help determine if we’re a good fit.
What can I expect at our first visit?
Your first session is a comprehensive evaluation lasting about 90 minutes. We’ll discuss your child’s strengths, your concerns, and your goals, and observe your child during play and functional activities. From there, we’ll create a personalized treatment plan that meets your child where they are and helps them grow with confidence.
What do sessions look like?
All therapy sessions are individualized, play-based, and child-led. Kids learn best through play, so we use fun, engaging activities to build skills while reducing stress and overwhelm.
Parents are always part of the process—we’ll give you tools and guidance to support your child at home and beyond.
Can I use FSA/HSA cards?
Yes! We accept FSA (Flexible Spending Accounts) and HSA (Health Savings Accounts), along with cash, checks, and all major credit or debit cards.
How is Small Steps, Big Leaps different from school-based OT?
School-based OT focuses specifically on helping students access their education and is determined by an IEP team. That means support is limited to school-related goals.
At Small Steps, Big Leaps, we offer a holistic, medical-based approach that supports the whole child—sensory processing, feeding, emotional regulation, fine/gross motor development, and more. We work closely with families to build foundational skills through direct, hands-on therapy.
How is this different from Early Intervention services?
While Early Intervention uses a coaching model focused on caregiver implementation, our approach is hands-on and therapist-led.
We guide your child through play-based sessions while also teaching you how to support progress at home. It’s a collaborative model that combines expert intervention with parent empowerment—for results that last.

"My son has struggled gaining weight since he was 2.5 months old. What a difference these past two months have made with Stephanie! My son was refusing to eat consistently and now he loves eating. He has gone from kind of rolling over to crawling. And he has gained weight! I wish we had found Stephanie sooner in our journey. I'm so grateful for her, her knowledge, and her compassion."

"We worked with Stephanie for a few months because our daughter had a tongue and lip tie. After she had the laser done, she still was not latching so we got in touch with Stephanie and she was fantastic! After each session we could see the progress our daughter was making. Stephanie is very friendly, patient and knowledgeable! We would recommend her to anyone!!!"

“Steph has worked with both my daughters on regulation, sensory issues, and anxiety. She is amazing at what she does and knows so much!! She always has great advice and my girls always look forward to their session with her!!!”
